College Football Point Spread

With USA Today and other major media outlets listing point spreads beside the various games in the sports section, many people are left to wonder how these new additions to their newspaper work. Though it may look complicated at first sight, a college football point spread is really simple thing when making your college football game predictions.

When looking at a college football point spread, you will see one of two different things. Since the listed line will always be for the home team, you will see either a plus sign or a minus sign with a number listed beside it. If the home team is the favorite to win the game by the Las Vegas odds makers, then the college football point spread will have a minus sign beside it. Likewise, if the home team is the underdog in the contest, then there will be a plus sign beside the corresponding college football point spread. That is fairly easy to understand, but the numbers that make up a college football betting odds can be a little bit trickier.

If a team is listed as +3, then they are a three point underdog. If you were to place a bet on this college football point spread, then you would need for your team to lose by less than three points or to win the game in order to win your bet. If your team lost by exactly three points, you would push the bet and get your money back. If the college football point spread for your team is -3, then the team must win by more than three points in order to give you a winner.

A college football point spread is really quite simple once it is explained to you. Understanding the line is not difficult, but placing your bet on the right side can sometimes be tough.
